Thumbnail sketches and V2 of map layout

After looking over my research and doing some quick thumbnail sketches. I decided to add changes to my map layout. Still not sure on the layout, but still need to add some changes.

The changes I have made are to have the farm in a different location, the viaduct higher and different angle, and the start point and finish at different locations. The viaduct I'm going for is the Smardale one i looked at in my research.

The other things i need think about is the drop of the valley, tree placement and the length.

This is sketch of the layout of the map

What I'm going to do for my level

I've decided to stick with my first idea, which is to have the track going over farm land and the moors. The viaduct idea I'm going to stick with, but not sure if track will still go over and under it. the level is going to have to be a point to point track.  In the level i hope to include:

  • At some point in the level i would like to have a viaduct, maybe a the centre between a small valley.
  • It will contain farm houses, barns and houses doted around. I could add factory but it mite not fit. still got research on subject
  • drystone walls and farm sections
  • old dust roads, dirts tracks
  • small stream, river
  • hills in the background
  • Railtrack
  • Small hamlet/town

Ideas

These are ideas that i hope to include a few into the level I'm going to make. The farm walls and dry stone walls  are going to be used as terrain barriers for the track. Hedges will also be used to guide the direction of the track. I want to have a small bridge like the one in the images that will provide the players with a small jump. I have an idea to have a section were the drivers go threw open gate section in the wall. This creates a narrow point were the drivers have to time it right. For another jump the drivers could drive over cart and jump one of the walls.

These layout are helping to provide me with a better understanding of the use of space for tracks.  Many of the tracks are curved, coming back on themselves as mean use a much of the space as possible. I need to do something similar as it would make the level run smoother. As for this racer the amount of bends does not need to be to excessive.
